I have been tracking the most common questions that I deal with here at Interlink, as a VoIP/Open Source system engineer.
Of late, the two main questions I deal with for the Digium Switchvox involve:
- SIP Provider Registration and
I thought it might be helpful if I shared some answers with you on these two topics.
First, in regard to SIP provider registration...some providers require authentication in the form of user name and password; other providers do not require user name and password in order to setup SIP trunking with the provider.
If your provider does not require the use of the user name and password, you would do the following:
- In the System Setup Menu, select <VOIP Providers> and then add a new (SIP) provider.
- Select the <Click to show advanced options>. The screen will look like what I've shown below.
- Change the <Host Type> to <Peer> and voila, you are now able to register with your provider without the use of user name and password.
The second most frequently asked question I've been getting involves licenses. Switchvox Licenses are used for any SIP extension, analog extension or virtual extension. The license does not correspond to the number of phones in your organization. The licenses correspond to the number of extensions of the types mentioned above.
For example: if you have a forty phone installation, and each phone has Line One and Line Two, this would require eighty licenses.
I guess this would be a good time to invite other questions you may have about Digium, Switchvox or Asterisk. Let me know what's on your mind.
