OptiSwitch 9000 Meets Stringent Carrier-Class Bandwidth and Qos Requirements
to Support Real-Time, Data-Intensive Applications
CHATSWORTH, Calif., June 6,
2006 -- MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Nasdaq: MRVC), a leading provider of

announced it has received certification for compliance with Metro Ethernet Forum
(“MEF”) technical specifications for all three services defined by the MEF
including Ethernet Private Line (“EPL”) Ethernet Virtual Private Line (“EVPL”)
and Ethernet LAN (“ELAN”).
MRV’s
OptiSwitch 9000 ("OS9000")
network aggregation solutions were tested by Iometrix and have been certified to
comply with the requirements established in the Abstract Test Suite for Traffic
Management Phase 1 ("MEF 14"). In Sept. 2005 MRV was among a select group of
companies to obtain the first round of MEF certifications for its OptiSwitch
Master 207 demarcation device that delivers MEF-compliant Ethernet services.

The certification verifies compliance with the MEF's Carrier Ethernet technical
specifications. The certification program is designed to accelerate the adoption
of Carrier Ethernet by helping service providers evaluate the equipment of
various vendors, enabling rapid service creation, smooth scalability to 10 Gbps,
end-to-end protection, robust service-level agreements and flexible support for
voice, Internet and multicast traffic.

The
OS9000 product family is the industry’s first carrier-class Metro Ethernet
platform to aggregate Gigabit Ethernet links, provision enhanced Ethernet/IP/MPLS
services, and provide wave division multiplexing (“WDM”) long distance
transport. In a separate news release issued this week, MRV announced new
Ethernet in the First Mile (“EFM”) support features including aggregation of EFM-standard
802.3ah links and auto-discovery of all 802.3ah enabled customer-premise
equipment (“CPE”). Remote capabilities including remote configuration, remote
performance monitoring and threshold alarms, and remote loopback have also been
added.
The new software features enable the OS9000 to aggregate Gigabit or Fast
Ethernet-based 802.3ah CPE. Due to the flexible connectivity of the OS9000,
these signals can be passed on to groomed Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet,
and WDM feeds and act as a second-mile transport vehicle to provider edge
platforms, offering a flexible, scalable solution. Management capabilities
including remote configuration, remote performance monitoring and threshold
alarms, and remote loop back have also been added.
