Verso Technologies, Inc.

announced today that it has entered into a formal partnership with ViaSat
Inc. (Nasdaq:VSAT) to jointly develop and market global satellite-based VoIP
networking solutions using the ViaSat LinkStar® broadband VSAT system with
Verso’s NetPerformer® GSM and VoIP switching products.
Carlsbad, California-based
ViaSat
manufactures the LinkStar, LinkWay®, and SurfBeam® satellite networking
systems that offer IP connectivity over satellite for applications including
GSM backhaul, rural telephony, government/defense, and distance learning.
The two companies were recently awarded a significant, multi-million dollar
project in Ecuador for which ViaSat will provide both voice and IP broadband
connectivity over satellite to the Ecuadorian government. Specifically,
ViaSat will deploy its LinkStar IP broadband satellite communications
platform and Verso’s Softswitch and media gateway solution to provide voice,
fax, IP Centrex features, and voicemail services to more than 1,500
locations throughout Ecuador.
Additionally, Verso and ViaSat
engineering teams have developed and successfully deployed a number of
unique VoIP solutions that provide an unparalleled level of bandwidth
efficiency and voice quality over satellite. The aligned packetization
schemes and triggering mechanisms employed in the ViaSat/Verso integrated
solution greatly benefits end users by way of reduced satellite bandwidth
cost. Viasat and Verso’s integrated solutions give both companies a
significant competitive advantage in the global marketplace.
