New SelectTM
Bandwidth Manager for Citrix Presentation ServerTM Provides
Cost-Effective, On-Demand Access into Application Performance at Local and
Remote Sites
Las Vegas, NV - At the Citrix iForumTM Global 2005. Press Release —
Visual Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:
VNWK — Booth #601), a leading provider of network
and application performance management solutions and a Citrix® Alliance
Partner, today announced the forthcoming release of a new software solution
that provides in-depth visibility into published applications under Citrix's
standard ICA® protocol. The offering, Select
Bandwidth Manager for Citrix Presentation Server, enables IT
managers to identify bandwidth utilization on a per-user,
per-application basis while also having end-to-end
visibility into all Citrix-published applications and
non-Citrix applications traversing the network - at both
local and remote sites. This new solution is a module of
Visual Networks' flagship
Visual UpTime Select™
product suite, which provides in-depth, real-time and
historical information that enables organizations to
intelligently manage application and network performance and
availability across the entire enterprise.
"This new solution from Visual Networks allows IT managers
to quickly and easily determine how much bandwidth each
Citrix user or site requires, thereby enabling enterprises
to proactively improve application performance across the
network," said David Jones, corporate vice president,
business development and corporate affairs, at Citrix. "This
offering also optimizes troubleshooting of challenging
issues such as remote printing and VoIP deployments."
Select Bandwidth Manager for Citrix Presentation Server lets
users identify the applications traversing the network, both
Citrix and non-Citrix, how those applications are
performing, and how much bandwidth they are consuming.
Leveraging this intelligence,
Visual UpTime Select
enables IT managers to identify potential application
performance issues and determine whether these problems are
due to end-user, network, or server issues. For example,
many Citrix performance problems are due to network issues
since Citrix application traffic may be squeezed by a
variety of other types of traffic, including non-Citrix
applications, worms and viruses, and un-authorized
applications, such as peer-to-peer file sharing.
"Visual Networks is able to offer a rich set of application
performance management functionality at a price point far
less than what Citrix customers might expect," said Bernd
Harzog, CEO of Applications Performance Management Experts.
"Additionally, with many Citrix users concentrated at remote
office locations, Visual Networks' strong branch office
management functionality is ideal for Citrix users to manage
application performance and bandwidth utilization."
The bursty nature of all application traffic creates
intermittent problems that are difficult to diagnose without
having real-time and historical visibility into network and
application performance provided by Visual UpTime Select.
And, with proactive alarming when usage or response time
exceeds a pre-determined threshold, enterprises can optimize
end-user quality of experience for key applications.
"The introduction of this offering enables us to extend the
intelligence we can deliver regarding the applications that
traverse the network," said Larry Barker, President and CEO
of Visual Networks. "We continue to invest significant
resources in Visual UpTime Select to strengthen its
ability to proactively manage application performance."
The company anticipates general availability of Select
Bandwidth Manager for Citrix Presentation Server in early
2006. Pricing begins at $2500 per site.
